Cumilla: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain today assured that the July Charter will be signed on time, dismissing any uncertainty surrounding its signing. 'A positive environment has appeared in the country's political arena. The July Charter will be signed and implemented on the basis of consensus among the political parties in due time to ensure the continuation of governance, democracy, and constitutional rights,' he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, AFM Khalid was speaking at the 24th Danottom Kothin Chibordana Fest held at the Shalban Buddha Bihar in Cumilla Sadar Dakshin (South) Upazila. The event was attended by prominent figures including Comilla University VC Prof. Mohammad Haider Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam, ASP Saiful Malik, former director of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) Babu Bijoy Kumar Barua, and representatives from the Buddha community.
The adviser emphasized the necessity of elections for ensuring governance, as it is through elections that the people's mandate is realized, thereby strengthening democratic institutions. 'The interim government is working to arrange an inclusive, fair, and non-partisan election within the planned time, and the government is committed to ensuring a level-playing field for the election,' he said.
He further added that the election commission operates independently, and the interim government is resolute in transferring power to those elected by the people. AFM Khalid highlighted the longstanding tradition of harmonious coexistence among the people of Bangladesh, irrespective of religion, gender, or race, which has been a tradition for hundreds of years. 'Institutions like Shalban Buddha Bihar are significant and vivid symbols of this tradition of coexistence,' he remarked.
Following the discussion, the adviser laid the foundation stone for the International Mediation Center and Free Friday Clinic on the premises of the Shalban Bihar.
