Dhaka: The 35th International Day of Older Persons was observed today in the district with due respect and enthusiasm. Activities to commemorate the day included a lively discussion meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Md Ohidul Islam as the chief guest, with Md Zakir Hossain, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office, presiding over the event. Civil Surgeon Md Shamim Kabir and General Secretary of the District Branch of Bangladesh Prabin Hitaishi Sangha, Md Nausher Ali, participated as special guests. Officials from various government departments and members of senior citizens' organizations were also in attendance.
The day's celebrations began with a colorful rally that started from the Collectorate Building premises, parading through the main streets of the town before concluding at the original venue. Speakers at the meeting emphasized the invaluable experience that elderly citizens bring to society and families. They highlighted the government's ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of older persons and reiterated the moral responsibility of all citizens to show respect, love, and care toward the elderly.
