Dhaka: The Bangladesh Police Association (BPA) in a statement today condemned recent attacks on policemen in Narsingdi, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Bogura districts. 'These unwanted and illegal incidents are a threat not only to the police force but also to the overall security and discipline of the state. It is very worrying, condemnable and sad to attack the police while they are on duties,' it said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BPA strongly condemns and protests these anti-law and anti-police incidents, adding that the police force is always striving to take strict legal action against these incidents and will remain steadfast in its duty in the future as well. 'We believe that with the cooperation of the people of the country, the police force will continue to perform its duties professionally in the coming days and uphold the constitution and democracy by ensuring national security,' it said.
The BPA noted that several incidents of attacks were carried out on police members engaged in maintaining law and order in different parts of the country, especially in Narsingdi, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Bogura. On October 4, 2025, an additional superintendent of police was attacked while conducting a drive against active extortionists in the Sadar area of Narsingdi district, leading to his injury.
On the same day, an organized gang of criminals kidnapped an accused after attacking policemen in Shibganj Upazila of Bogura, injuring three police members in the incident. On August 11, a sub-inspector of Bandar Police Station was hacked and seriously injured during an attack from a procession of a banned political party in Chattogram. Additionally, on October 5, a group of truck workers behaved violently towards police during a regular check post in Companiganj, Sylhet, resulting in serious injuries to five policemen.
The BPA statement reminded everyone that Bangladesh Police is the first resistance fighter of the Great Liberation War. Bangladesh Police has been performing its duties day and night with dedication to ensuring the safety of the people and maintaining peace and order. The police have shown efficiency and professionalism in various national issues, including the recently concluded Durga Puja.
'Despite the extremely adverse situation that arose after August 5, the police are working with restraint, patience, dedication, and the highest role and responsibility in establishing the rule of law,' it added. The statement was signed by BPA Acting President Ali Iftekhar Hasan and General Secretary Monirul Haque.
