Tongi: The family of fire-fighter Nurul Huda has been blessed with a newborn baby boy 12 days after his death in a chemical warehouse blast in Tongi on the outskirts of the capital. Huda's widow gave birth to a boy at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital today, Monday at 10:30 am, said a press release of the Fire Service and Civil Defence. The joy of the newborn's arrival is overshadowed by the absence of his father, who lost his life in the line of duty.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, fire-fighter Nurul Huda was severely injured while combating a fire at a chemical godown in the Sahara Market area of Tongi on September 22. He sustained extensive burn injuries and was admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery with almost complete burn coverage. Despite medical efforts, Huda succumbed to his injuries on September 24 at around 2:40 pm.
In addition to his newborn son, Huda is survived by a 10-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. His dedication to his profession and ultimate sacrifice have left a profound impact on his family and colleagues. Huda, born on July 21, 1987, in Dhamail village of Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh district, joined the Fire Service and Civil Defence as a fire-fighter on March 29, 2007.
The tragic incident also claimed the lives of fire-fighter Shamim Ahmed and warehouse inspector Khandaker Jannatul Naeem. The community mourns their loss, recognizing their bravery and commitment to public safety.
