Dhaka: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued a public request urging individuals to undergo dengue testing promptly upon experiencing fever symptoms.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Moinul Ahsan, DGHS Director of Hospitals and Clinics, emphasized through a press release that it is crucial for patients with fever to seek dengue testing at the nearest medical facility as soon as symptoms appear. He also advised that immediate consultation with physicians is necessary if dengue is detected.
Dr. Ahsan expressed concern over the recent death toll, highlighting that nine people succumbed to dengue in a single day. He revealed that seven of these individuals died on the day they were admitted to the hospital, attributing the fatalities to delayed medical intervention, which left insufficient time for effective treatment.
Further, he noted that another patient died the day following their hospital admission, underscoring the challenges faced by medical professionals in treating advanced cases due to late arrivals.
Dr. Ahsan reassured the public that the DGHS is vigilant and prepared for dengue treatment, with adequate stocks of test kits, saline, and medicines available in hospitals. Nevertheless, he stressed the importance of early detection, adherence to treatment guidelines, and implementation of mosquito control measures to curb the mortality rate.
In closing, he called for cooperation from all relevant sectors to support these efforts.
