Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today announced that the government is meticulously observing the status and safety of individuals involved in the 'Global Sumud Flotilla' for Gaza. This initiative has garnered significant attention due to its humanitarian focus and the involvement of prominent figures.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the well-being of participants, particularly highlighting world-renowned photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam. Alam is recognized for his courage and steadfast dedication to justice, having previously endured 107 days in imprisonment in 2018 for his vocal opposition to injustices under the Hasina administration.
Professor Yunus lauded Shahidul Alam for his bravery and determination, stating that he embodies the resilient spirit of Bangladesh. He drew parallels between Alam's current mission and his past advocacy efforts, underscoring his unwavering resolve.
In his address to the United Nations General Assembly last month, Professor Yunus highlighted the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza, condemning the global indifference to human suffering. He painted a grim picture of the situation in Gaza, where children face starvation, and indiscriminate violence claims civilian lives, erasing entire communities, including critical infrastructures like hospitals and schools.
Reaffirming Bangladesh's solidarity, the Chief Adviser declared unwavering support for Shahidul Alam and the people of Gaza, emphasizing a commitment to stand with them both now and in the future.
