Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) is set to engage in a dialogue with journalists on Monday in anticipation of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. The event will take place at the conference room of the EC Secretariat in Agargaon, Dhaka, as announced by Ashadul Haque, Assistant Director (Public Relations) of EC.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, electronic media representatives are scheduled to participate in the session from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a meeting with print media journalists from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), AMM Nasir Uddin, will preside over the meeting, which will also see the attendance of four Election Commissioners.

The EC has been actively engaging with various stakeholders to ensure a free and fair election process. This meeting with media representatives forms part of an ongoing effort to gather opinions and suggestions from political parties, academics, intellectuals, civil society members, journalists, election experts, observers, and women leaders.

Ashadul Haque noted that more than 40 media personnel from different outlets would participate in the discussion. This initiative follows a series of talks initiated by the EC on September 28, involving civil society representatives and educationists who highlighted the need for security to achieve a credible election.

The dialogue emphasized the critical role of a free and effective media in maintaining a healthy democracy. Participants urged the EC to ensure that journalists can operate independently throughout the electoral process-from election preparation and polling to result announcements-so that accurate information is disseminated to the public, preventing any misunderstandings.
