Dhaka: Sharmin Akhter Supta, a seasoned player for the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team, is determined to maintain her impressive performance streak in the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Bangladesh’s historic debut in the World Cup three years ago has set the stage for their aspirations in the coming tournament, as Supta highlighted during a conversation with the ICC.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Supta is among the eight players who will be returning to the World Cup competition, having been instrumental in Bangladesh’s first-ever World Cup victory against Pakistan. Since that monumental win, Bangladesh has drawn a series with India and secured a series victory over Pakistan, with Supta’s contributions with the bat playing a pivotal role.

Reflecting on past experiences, Supta mentioned that positive memories from previous performances instill confidence in her. Despite some close losses in the last World Cup, such as the match against the West Indies, Supta remains optimistic. She noted that with Sri Lanka participating this time, the competition will be more intense, but she is committed to replicating her past successes for the team.

Bangladesh’s journey to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 saw them reach the qualifiers’ final, edging out the West Indies on net run rate. Supta’s performance was noteworthy, as she was named in the team of the tournament, amassing 266 runs in five matches. Her standout innings included an unbeaten 94 against Thailand, following a 96-run effort against Ireland last November. Supta is on the cusp of achieving her first century, which would be a significant milestone as only the third Bangladeshi woman to do so and the first at a World Cup.

At 29, Supta is part of a core group of experienced players, complemented by emerging talents like 17-year-old Nishita Akhter Nishi, who will make her World Cup debut. The blend of seasoned players and energetic newcomers is seen as a strategic advantage for the team.

Supta emphasized the importance of this combination, stating that the experience of senior players and the dynamism of juniors could lead to an exciting and successful campaign. She remains focused on her performance, aiming to not only contribute to her team’s success but also achieve personal milestones that would be memorable throughout her career.
