Netrokona: In the last one year, 1,823 cases have been disposed of by the village court in the district. The information was given at a meeting titled Annual Progress Review and To-Do of Village Court Activities at the district level. The meeting was organized by the district administration at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office this morning. These cases included family, civil, and criminal offenses and have been resolved through the village court in 86 unions of the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Director of Local Government Ariful Islam Sardar revealed that from June 2024 to June 2025, a total of 1,976 applications were submitted by disadvantaged justice seekers in the village courts. Out of these, 92 percent of the cases have been disposed of. Among the applicants, 25 percent were women, accounting for 444 cases, while 75 percent were men, totaling 1,332 cases. During this period, justice seekers received a total of Taka 2 crore 23 lakh 65 thousand as compensation.
Deputy Director Ariful Islam Sardar presided over the meeting, with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud addressing it as the chief guest. District Manager of AVCB-3 Project Abdullah Al Mujahid and Md. Atiqul Islam, among others, also spoke. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman emphasized that most insolvent individuals in rural areas cannot travel to the city to seek justice in the court. He stressed that the village court must play an effective role in ensuring that trials under its authority are conducted impartially and efficiently.
At the event, three individuals from the district were awarded for their exemplary handling of trial procedures at the village court. The first prize was awarded to Chairman of Zaria Union Parishad Aminul Islam, the second prize to Chairman of Lengura Union Saidur Rahman, and the third prize was given to Chairman of Bishkakuni Union Amirul Islam. Additionally, Khaliajuri Upazila, located in the Haor region of the district, was recognized as the best upazila in court administration.
