Dhaka: Maritime ports of the country have been asked to hoist Local Cautionary Signal (LCS) 3 as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and turned into a well-marked low.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) indicated that the low might further strengthen.
In a special weather bulletin, the BMD reported that the low developed in the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining west central bay off the Odisha-Andhra coast of India. It has transformed into a well-marked low and was located in the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining central bay as of 6 am on Friday. The Met Office warned that it may intensify further, causing a steep pressure gradient over the North Bay. This could lead to gusty or squally winds affecting the North Bay, Bangladesh's coastal areas, and sea ports.
The sea ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3. Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been instructed to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
The Met Office also forecasted light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds in a few places across the Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and one or two locations in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions over the next 24 hours.
