Dhaka: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has emphasized the crucial role of cooperation with China for Bangladesh's economic transformation. 'Social and economic development will be possible by increasing the competitiveness of Bangladesh and China,' she stated while speaking at the Dhaka-China Day 2025 event held at North South University.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farida highlighted that the Chief Adviser had visited China on March 26, 2025, and signed several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) focusing on economic and technical cooperation. These agreements are set to bolster cooperation across various sectors including culture, media, sports, and health, which she noted would be particularly beneficial for the younger generation who are pivotal to the country's progress.
In the context of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Farida pointed out that Bangladesh, with the collaborative efforts of its fishermen, workers, traders, importers, exporters, researchers, and scientists, is nearing self-sufficiency in fish, meat, and egg production. She also remarked that besides fulfilling domestic needs, Bangladesh is exporting fish and fish products globally.
Farida acknowledged China's long-standing role as a reliable trading partner and expressed optimism that future cooperation between Bangladesh and China could open new avenues in the fisheries and livestock sectors. She envisioned this collaboration would lead to opportunities in aquaculture technology, modern production methods, climate-resilient animal housing, disease control, antimicrobial resistance systems, and modernization of fish processing facilities, which would further enhance food security and economic growth.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen remarked that the Dhaka-China Day event symbolizes the strong ties between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of showcasing Chinese culture to the general public and young students in Bangladesh to foster a deeper mutual understanding and connection.
Yao also noted that Bangladesh-China relations are at a pivotal moment, with both countries advancing together in development cooperation and other areas. The event was also attended by Benazir Ahmed, founding life member and board of trustees member of the NSU Trust, and NSU Vice Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, along with diplomats, academicians, researchers, businessmen, and students from both countries.
