Dhaka: Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker today assured that the demand for the Proportional Representation (PR) system and issues regarding a political party’s symbol will not impede the organization of the upcoming election. “The Election Commission (EC) is always prepared for the National Parliament Election,” he stated while addressing the press after inaugurating a workshop at Shaheed Satu Auditorium in the district.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anwarul Islam highlighted the constitutional responsibilities of the Election Commission, emphasizing that the EC strictly adheres to its legal boundaries. He reiterated, “The Election Commission is a constitutional institution,” and confirmed that all operations are and will continue to be conducted in compliance with existing laws.

He further affirmed that the commission will maintain its commitment to legality, ensuring that no actions will be taken outside the framework of law. In efforts to enhance electoral integrity, the commissioner disclosed that the EC is implementing measures against those who have previously committed electoral offenses.

Addressing queries from reporters, he mentioned that individuals involved in irregularities or illegal activities in past elections will be excluded from electoral duties in the forthcoming election. This decision is based on past experiences to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

The workshop attended by the commissioner was centered on “Identifying challenges and ways to overcome those in the performance of duties by polling officials in the election process.”
