Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Selima Rahman today stated that the Proportional Representation (PR) system would undermine the voting rights of the populace. “I don’t even understand the PR system, so how will the people of the country understand it?” she remarked while addressing a discussion titled “Bangladesh’s Democracy and Constitution in the Current Context” at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Selima Rahman emphasized that even after the end of the fascist government, the BNP continues its struggle for the people’s voting rights and democracy. She affirmed that the battle to uphold the constitution is ongoing. “Even after announcing the election roadmap, the losers of 1971 are trying to derail it. They cannot forget their past ideology, which is why they are conspiring to stop the election. BNP will not let that happen,” she asserted.

The BNP leader further remarked on the actions of those conducting covert attacks on the chief adviser’s entourage, stating that such acts bring shame to the nation.
