Dinajpur: BNP Standing Committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain emphasized today that establishing a democratic government through free and fair elections is the sole solution to the ongoing crisis in the country. “There is a national consensus among people of all walks of life in favour of this demand,” he stated during a views-exchange meeting with journalists. This meeting took place after Dr. Zahid visited various Durga Puja mandaps and distributed financial assistance in Hili under Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur district.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Zahid highlighted the absence of proportional representation (PR) in the country over the past 54 years, reiterating the BNP’s clear stance on this issue. He stressed that the BNP, recognized as the largest democratic political party in the country, insists on voting rights as enshrined in the Constitution. He remarked, “For more than a century and a half, the people of Bengal have been deprived of their right to vote in national elections. They are eagerly waiting to cast their votes.”

Throughout the day, Dr. Zahid personally donated Taka 5,000 each to several Durga Puja mandaps across four upazilas of the Dinajpur-6 constituency. The event was attended by Hakimpur Upazila BNP unit President Md Ferdous Rahman, General Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi, Municipal BNP Acting President Farid Khan, General Secretary Nazmul Hossain, and various BNP party leaders and activists.
