Bagerhat: Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, in separate operations, have seized a firearm, ammunition, and a significant quantity of stolen lubricant oil from the Pirojpur and Mongla areas.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the incidents in a statement this afternoon. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Coast Guard and police conducted a raid in the Khetachira area under Mathbaria Police Station in Pirojpur around 6 am. During this operation, authorities recovered one country-made firearm and four rounds of fresh cartridges from a boat.
In a separate operation around 7 am, the Coast Guard executed another raid in the Kathakhal area near Mongla upazila in Bagerhat. During this raid, the team seized 2,220 litres of burnt lubricant oil, reportedly stolen from a commercial vessel. The estimated market value of the recovered oil is around Taka 20.45 lakh.
The miscreants managed to flee the scene during both operations upon sensing the presence of the Coast Guard. Legal procedures concerning the seized arms, ammunition, oil, and engine boat are currently underway, Coast Guard officials stated.
