3 Officials of Public Works Department Suspended on Graft Allegations

Dhaka: The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has suspended Deputy Director of Public Works Department Rashed Ahmed Sadi and its Assistant Director Bilal Hossain on various allegations of corruption and misconducts.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the officials were accused of recommending government housing allocations without considering job grade and basic salary, demanding significant bribes from applicants for the allocation of D-1 and D-2 class houses, and engaging in irregularities in the performance of duties related to the allocation of houses.

The ministry’s notification highlighted that Rashed Ahmed Sadi had amassed a considerable amount of money and immovable assets through his involvement in the government house allocation syndicate.

In a separate notification, the ministry also announced the suspension of Assistant Accountant Md Nazrul Islam of the Housing and Public Works Department. He faces allegations of corruption and misconduct, including demanding bribes from applicants under the guise of house allotment.
