Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today said they overnight arrested two people including husband of a murdered woman suspecting their link to the killing.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a DMP statement revealed that the arrests were made yesterday, three days after the body of 35-year-old Bithi Akhter was found in a playground under Turag Police Station. Akhter had been missing since September 14, prompting her mother, Monowara Begum, to file a general diary (GD) with Cantonment Police Station, which was later converted to a murder case following the discovery of her daughter’s body.
The statement detailed that police from Turag and Pallabi stations first apprehended Akhter’s husband, Babul, from the Mirpur DOHS area after receiving secret information. Subsequently, based on Babul’s disclosures, another suspect, Samrat, was arrested from the Kalapani area of Mirpur on the same day.
DMP believes the murder may have stemmed from a family dispute. Both suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before a magistrate.
