Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today announced that members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed from September 24 to ensure peaceful and festive celebrations of the Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community. “We will deploy the law enforcement agencies from September 24 for peaceful and festive celebrations of the Durga Puja,” he stated while addressing journalists after the 14th meeting of the advisory council committee on law and order at the Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police, RAB, and other law enforcement agencies are already patrolling the roads. Additionally, seven volunteers appointed by the respective puja committee are safeguarding each of the puja mandaps. The Home Adviser further mentioned that the Women and Children Affairs Ministry will deploy 80,000 volunteers at the puja mandaps across the country.

The Home Adviser expressed his hopes that the Durga Puja would be celebrated more effectively this year. When questioned about incidents of vandalism at puja mandaps, Jahangir acknowledged that one or two such incidents had occurred, but assured that legal actions were taken immediately afterward. He also advised the relevant authorities to bring the puja mandaps under CCTV coverage and to maintain the religious sanctity of the festival.
