Prof Kalimullah Appears in Court Over Corruption Charges, Investigation Report Due November 26

Dhaka: Former vice chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah today appeared before the court in a case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). Senior Special Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka Sabbir Foyez ordered to send him to jail and fixed November 26 for submitting the investigation report to the court on the case as the ACC failed to produce the report today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC Assistant Director Minhaz Bin-Islam filed the case on July 18 against five people, including Prof Kalimullah, for allegedly embezzling funds from a university development project. The other accused are the former vice chancellor and project director Prof AKM Nurunnabi, former executive engineer and tender evaluation committee member Jahangir Alam, and two contractors, Abdus Salam Bachhu and M M Habibur Rahman.



A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Prof Kalimullah from his Mohammadpur residence on August 7. He was subsequently taken on a five-day police remand in connection with the case on August 27.
