Chattogram: City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today urged students of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) to ensure better healthcare service to the people. He was addressing the rally of the graduates of CMC on the occasion of 68th CMC Day on its campus today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shahadat emphasized that doctors graduating from CMC should play a role beyond just providing treatment for the welfare of the city people. He highlighted the need for them to work towards raising health awareness, supporting the community, and contributing to building a healthy nation. The City Mayor pointed out the lack of proper healthcare for residents of Chattogram city and encouraged both students and alumni of CMC to take the lead in research, service, and awareness-building initiatives.
Former students of the CMC highlighted the institution’s rich tradition and significant contribution to the city’s healthcare sector. They noted that since its establishment in 1957, CMC has not only produced skilled doctors but also played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s healthcare sector.
A procession of the CMC alumni commenced from the CMC campus and concluded at Shah Alam Bir Uttam auditorium after parading different roads. Later, a discussion was held at the college auditorium, which was attended by teachers, alumni, and current students. The City Mayor inaugurated the day’s programs by releasing balloons.
Chattogram Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Abdur Rab presided over the function, while Director of CMC Hospital Brigadier General Dr. Md. Taslim Uddin, former principal of the college Professor Dr. Imran Bin Yunus, former student Professor Dr. Manjurul Islam, Professor Dr. Imam Uddin, Professor Dr. SM Tarek, Professor Dr. Jasim Uddin, Professor Dr. Tamiz Uddin Ahmed Manik, and Dr. Khurshid Jamil Chowdhury, among others, spoke on the occasion.
