Abu dhabi: Bangladesh captain Liton Das needs only 28 runs to become the top run-getter for the country in T20 Internationals, surpassing ace allrounder Shakib Al Hasan. The milestone may be achieved today as Bangladesh faces Afghanistan in a crucial Asia Cup game at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Liton, who leads Bangladesh in T20s, has scored three half-centuries in his last five matches. This includes a notable performance against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup opening game, boosting his prospects of overtaking Shakib. Shakib currently leads with 2551 runs in 129 matches, while Liton has accumulated 2524 runs in 112 matches. Notably, Liton is on the verge of surpassing Shakib by playing fewer matches than the seasoned allrounder.

Mahmudullah Riyad, who has retired from international cricket, holds the third spot with 2444 runs. Tamim Iqbal, with 1701 runs from 74 matches, is in fourth place, while Mushfiqur Rahim occupies the fifth spot with 1500 runs from 102 matches. While Tamim has retired from all formats of cricket, Mushfiqur continues to play Test cricket after retiring from the ODI and T20 formats.

Liton, however, boasts the best strike rate among Bangladesh’s top five batters with 126.95. Shakib’s strike rate stands at 121.18, while the other three batters maintain strike rates below 120.
