Dhaka: The government has made a policy decision to export 1,200 Metric tons (MTs) of hilsa fish to India for the upcoming Durga Puja, as announced by the commerce ministry in a statement issued today. This annual decision allows for the traditional export of hilsa, a staple in celebrations, especially during the Durga Puja festivities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, applicants interested in exporting hilsa have been instructed to submit their applications in hard copy during office hours by September 11. The application process requires the submission of several documents, including an updated trade license, Export Registration Certificate (ERC), income tax certificate, VAT certificate, sales agreement, and a license from the Department of Fisheries.

The government has established a minimum export price of hilsa at US$12.5 per kilogram. Additionally, it has been noted that applicants who have previously applied without an official invitation are required to submit a new application to be considered for this year’s export initiative.
