Sundarbans: Members of the East Forest Division have arrested six fishermen along with an engine-run trawler from the Narikelbaria canal area in the Sundarbans for illegal fishing activities. The incident took place on Saturday night, highlighting ongoing efforts to preserve the natural resources of the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the detained fishermen were identified as Bellal Khan, 30; Miraz, 29; Hridoy Howlader, 22; Al Amin Howlader, 22; Khairul Islam, 24; and Isa Mia. They are all residents of Padma village located under Patharghata upazila in the Barguna district.
Forest department sources reported that the fishermen were apprehended while fishing illegally in the canal using their trawler around 11:00 pm. The operation was led by Subrata Kumar Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Dublarchar Forest Outpost.
The fishermen, upon noticing the forest patrol team's presence, attempted to escape with the trawler. However, forest officials pursued and successfully detained them within the canal area, as stated by Rana Deb, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) of the Shoronkhola Range.
Following their detention, the fishermen and the trawler were handed over to Shoronkhola Police Station for necessary legal proceedings.
