Gazipur: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification detailing the final list of demarcation of the 300 parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections. In this final demarcation, Gazipur has gained an additional seat, bringing its total to six, while Bagerhat has seen a reduction, now holding three seats.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed shared this information. The demarcation process has largely maintained the boundaries of 261 seats from the 12th Jatiya Sangsad, with only minor adjustments made to 39 seats for the upcoming elections. A period for expressing claims and objections regarding these changes was open until August 10.
The EC conducted hearings from August 24 to August 27 to address a total of 1,893 claims and objections related to the re-demarcation. Akhtar Ahmed mentioned that these hearings resulted in the receipt of 1,185 objections and 708 suggestions or recommendations concerning 84 constituencies across 33 districts. The EC considered opinions from both sides during this process.
Specific hearings were held for various constituencies over the four days. On August 24, hearings took place for Brahmanbaria, Comilla, and Noakhali constituencies. August 25 saw discussions on constituencies in Satkhira, Jessore, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Barguna, Pirojpur, Chittagong, and Khagrachhari, among others. On August 26, the focus was on Manikganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj. Finally, on August 27, the Commission reviewed claims and objections for constituencies in Panchagarh, Rangpur, Kurigram, Sirajganj, and several others, including Dhaka.
