Constituency Delimitation: Seats Increase in Gazipur, Decrease in Bagerhat

Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification publishing the final list of demarcation of the 300 parliamentary constituencies for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections. In the final demarcation, the number of seats increased to six in Gazipur, while the number decreased to three in Bagerhat.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed provided this information on Thursday evening. The boundaries of 261 seats of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad remain unchanged, with minor adjustments made to 39 seats in preparation for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections. A deadline of August 10 was set for expressing claims and objections regarding the boundaries of the parliamentary areas.



On August 27, Akhtar Ahmed stated that a four-day hearing addressed 1,893 claims and objections concerning the re-demarcation of parliamentary constituencies ahead of the national elections. During this hearing, the Commission received 1,185 objections and 708 suggestions or recommendations related to 84 constituencies across 33 districts.



The Commission held hearings on August 24 for Brahmanbaria-2, 3, 5, Comilla-1, 2, 6, 9, 10, 11, and Noakhali-1, 2, 4, 5 constituencies. A hearing was also held for Chandpur-2, 3, Feni-3, Lakshmipur-2, 3 constituencies.



On August 25, the Commission addressed claims and objections for Satkhira-3, 4, Jessore-3, 6, Bagerhat-1, 2, 3, Jhalokati-1, Barguna-1, 2, Pirojpur-1, 2, 3, Chittagong-3, 5, 8, 10, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, and Bandarban constituencies.



The hearings continued on August 26 for Manikganj-1, 2, 3, Munshiganj-1, 2, 3, Gazipur-2, 6, Narsingdi-3, 4, 5, and Narayanganj-3, 4, 5. The Commission also heard claims and objections regarding Dhaka-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19 constituencies.



Furthermore, on August 27, the Commission heard claims and objections concerning Panchagarh-1, 2, Rangpur-1, Kurigram-4, Sirajganj-2, 5, 6, Pabna-1, and also held hearings for the claims and objections of Tangail-6, Jamalpur-2, Kishoreganj-1, Sylhet-1, Faridpur-1, 4, Madaripur-2, 3, and Shariatpur-2 and 3 constituencies.
