Gazipur: Two children drowned after falling into an abandoned pond behind their home while playing in Gazipur on Wednesday afternoon, casting a pall of grief over the area. The incident took place at 5:30 pm in the Ambagh Pashimpara area under Konabari in Gazipur city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased have been identified as Yanur, 2, son of Azad from Jamalpur district, and Habib, 2, son of Amir Hossain from Tangail district. Both families had been residing in a rented house at Afsar Hazi's residence in the Ambagh Pashimpara area, as stated by Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam of Konabari Police Station.
Locals reported that the children accidentally fell into an abandoned pond near their house while playing on its bank around 5:30 pm. Their bodies were later discovered floating in the water by family members and neighbors, who rushed them to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, they were declared dead by the on-duty doctor.
The pond had reportedly been abandoned for a long time, posing a hidden danger to local residents. The families took the bodies to their ancestral homes later that night.
