Rangpur: Police have arrested Shuktara Begum, the president of the Ward 25 unit of the Rangpur Metropolitan Mohila Sramik League, in connection with an attempted murder case related to the anti-discrimination student movement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shuktara Begum was apprehended from her residence in the city's Shalbon Botla Club Mour area during the early hours of Wednesday. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Kotwali Metropolitan Police Station, Md Ataur Rahman, confirmed the arrest.
Shuktara Begum, who is married to Abdul Khaleque, has been identified as the 147th accused in the attempted murder case. The case was filed by Ramzan Ali, a victim who sustained a gunshot wound during the anti-discrimination student movement in the city last year.
Following her arrest, Shuktara Begum was presented before the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1. Judge Md Soyebur Rahman ordered her to be remanded in custody on Wednesday afternoon.
