Dhaka: A court here today placed former law minister Anisul Huq on a four-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of a vegetable vendor, Md Shahabul Islam Shaon, during the July Mass Uprising in the Ashulia area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Tajul Islam Sohagh approved the remand after police presented Anisul Huq in court, seeking a seven-day remand for further investigation. The case revolves around the death of Shahabul, a rickshaw-van vegetable seller who participated in an anti-discrimination student movement rally on August 4, 2024. The rally turned tragic when Shahabul was shot near the RMST Building at the Baipail Intersection in Ashulia, resulting in his immediate death.
The case was initiated by Shahabul's brother, Touhidul Miah, who filed the complaint at the Ashulia Police Station. The remand order is part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Shahabul's death during the rally.
