Dhaka: A seminar titled ‘Ensuring Ethical Practice in Teaching and Research: An Overview’ was held today at the Wazed Miah Science Research Centre of Jahangirnagar University (JU). The event aimed to address the importance of ethical guidelines in academic settings.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Faculty of Biological Science organized the program, and JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan attended as the chief guest. Susan Vize, Head and Representative of UNESCO Bangladesh, presented the keynote paper, emphasizing the significance of adhering to ethical standards.

During the event, Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan highlighted the gap between theoretical knowledge of ethics and its practical application. He stated, “What is written in textbooks about ethics often remains absent in our real-life practice. We must ensure that ethical guidelines are followed not only in principle but also in practice.” The Vice-Chancellor also underscored the necessity of protecting research participants, obtaining informed consent, and maintaining confidentiality.

Prof Kamrul expressed hope that professionalism, honesty, and respect would continue to be fundamental values in teaching and research at JU. The seminar was presided over by the acting Dean of the Biological Sciences Faculty, Prof Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, and coordinated by Prof Dr Saquiba Yesmine of the Pharmacy Department.
