Two Drug Peddlers Arrested with Yaba and Phensedyl in Tangail

Tangail: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two drug peddlers along with 6,700 pieces of yaba tablets and 94 abandoned bottles of phensedyl in separate drives in Mirzapur and Sadar Upazilas here. The arrestees were identified as Robiul Islam, 30, son of late Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Mohammadpur in Magura district, and Shahin Alam, 35, a truck driver from the same area.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Company Commander of RAB-14 CPC-3 Kawsar Badhan disclosed the information at a press briefing held at his office last night. Acting on a tip-off, authorities were informed about a consignment of yaba tablets being transported in a sand-laden truck from Sylhet, passing through Gazipur en route to Tangail. A checkpoint was set up in Mirzapur, where a search of the truck led to the recovery of 6,700 pieces of yaba. The estimated market value of the seized yaba is approximately Tk 20.10 lakh. Both the driver and his associate were arrested on the spot.



In a separate operation, 94 bottles of phensedyl were recovered in an abandoned condition from inside a truck parked at Khudirampur on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Tangail Sadar upazila. The estimated market value of the recovered phensedyl is Tk 2.82 lakh. Cases have been filed against the arrestees with Mirzapur and Tangail Sadar police stations.
