Dhaka: National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara stated that people have turned away from the decade-old political system dominated by money and muscle power. “The July mass uprising was not merely about changing political faces, rather it was about dismantling the whole fascist system that has long controlled the country,” she remarked during a session at the two-day ‘Bengal Delta Conference 2025’ held at a city hotel today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tasnim further emphasized that the July Uprising demonstrated the public’s unwillingness to accept a political system dominated by financial and aggressive influences. The session titled ‘Reform and Reality: Bangladesh’s Changing Political Landscape’ was moderated by Professor Dr. Asif Shahan of the Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka.

Dr. David Jackman, a Departmental Lecturer in Development Studies at the University of Oxford, and Dr. Mahdi Amin, Advisor to the Acting Chairman of BNP, also participated in the discussion. At the outset, Dr. Jackman highlighted the dominant role of financial influence and muscle power in Bangladesh’s political scene. He noted that the misuse of funds, particularly during election campaigns, has contributed to an increase in extortion and abuse of power.

The conference was organised by the Dacca Institute of Research and Analytics.
