Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today said the Chief Adviser of the interim government has made all arrangements to ensure that the Election Commission (EC) can perform its responsibilities independently.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, AMM Nasir Uddin emphasized that no pressure or influence has been exerted on the Election Commission by the Chief Adviser. The CEC made these remarks after meeting with Tracy Ann Jacobson, Charg© d'affaires of the US Embassy in Bangladesh, at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.
Nasir Uddin highlighted the necessity of government cooperation for conducting elections. He pointed out that the EC relies on various government entities, including the police, army, and BGB, as well as monetary and personnel support, to hold elections. The CEC reassured that the government is prepared to provide the necessary cooperation.
The Chief Adviser has directed all relevant government agencies to complete election preparations by December. The CEC stated that the Election Commission is making thorough preparations to conduct elections whenever the government deems appropriate. Nasir Uddin mentioned informing Tracy Ann Jacobson about these preparations.
The Chief Adviser has communicated with the Election Commission, requesting that elections be held before Ramadan next year. The EC has intensified its preparations following this request, with significant tasks already underway.
When asked about differing opinions among political parties, Nasir Uddin expressed confidence that the parties would prioritize national interests. He noted that efforts are being made to foster consensus, with the Chief Adviser resuming discussions with political parties.
