Sylhet: Home Adviser Lt Gen (Rtd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury emphasized that the primary goal of the interim government is to meet the aspirations of the populace by transferring power to an elected government through a free, fair, and neutral election.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir highlighted the pivotal role of the citizens in ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election. The Home Adviser made these comments during a view exchange meeting at the Sylhet Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
He underscored the critical role of field administration and law enforcement agencies in facilitating a free, fair, and peaceful election. He stated that the Election Commission's preparations must be complemented by adequate preparations from these agencies.
Jahangir stressed the need for cooperation among all parties to create an environment where voters can cast their votes without apprehension. He also addressed the transparency in the appointment and posting within law enforcement agencies, urging impartiality in performing duties.
The adviser highlighted drug abuse as a significant threat to national security and directed law enforcement agencies to adopt a 'zero tolerance' policy towards drug dealers. He assured that reasonable measures would be taken to overcome challenges in maintaining law and order in Sylhet, as discussed by officials during the meeting.
Jahangir, who also serves as Agriculture Adviser, stressed the significance of agriculture in the national economy and the need to ensure fair pricing for farmers' products. He urged stakeholders to cultivate fallow agricultural lands to bolster food security.
