Sylhet: The 107th birth anniversary of Bangabir General Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmani, the Commander-in-Chief of Bangladesh's 1971 War of Liberation, will be celebrated in Sylhet tomorrow. Bangabir Osmani Smriti Sangsad has organized a series of events in Sylhet, the birthplace of the renowned freedom fighter, to commemorate the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the programs will include placing wreaths and offering 'Fateha' at General Osmani's grave at 10 am. Additionally, there will be a discussion meeting, Dua mahfil, and an essay competition in the afternoon. Tributes will also be paid at General Osmani's grave following Khatme Quran, Milad Mahfil, and Dua at the mosque next to the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R).
General Osmani was born in 1918 in Sunamganj into a Bengali Muslim 'Jaminder' family. He was an academic achiever, studied at Aligarh Muslim University, and joined the Indian Military Academy in 1939. Throughout his career, he actively witnessed significant historical events in the country. He passed away on February 16, 1984, in a UK hospital after being diagnosed with cancer.
