Netrakona: Prof Dr Anwarul Haque and Dr Rafiqul Islam Hilali have been elected as the president and general secretary of the Netrakona District Unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), respectively. The election took place during the district BNP triennial conference held at Moktarpara ground in the district town, marking the first such event in 11 years. The conference concluded peacefully, and the election results were announced last night.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 1,515 councilors from 10 upazilas and 5 municipalities participated in the voting process to elect the new leadership. The election saw five candidates vying for the positions of president and general secretary. Prof Dr Anwarul Haque emerged victorious as president with 1,275 votes, defeating his opponent Advocate Mahafujul Haque, who secured 211 votes. Dr Rafiqul Islam Hilali was elected as general secretary with 746 votes, narrowly surpassing Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Rony, who received 721 votes.
