Dhaka: Police in a drive arrested four people, including a woman, in connection with the kidnapping of an eight-year-old child this morning from a picnic spot at Lohagara upazila of the district. During the drive, the abducted child Abdullah Mejbah, son of Salauddin Mridha, a Saudi expatriate, was also rescued.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individuals are shopkeeper Ujjwal Sheikh, 36, son of Shahid Sheikh; Rozina Begum, 35, wife of Babul Laskar; her son Shakib Laskar, 17; and van driver Jannatul, 18, son of Hanif Sheikh. All are residents of Kotakol union of the upazila. The group allegedly demanded ransom from the family of the child.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Shariful Islam provided details during a press briefing at the police station hall room on Sunday afternoon. The OC stated that Abdullah Mejbah went to Ujjwal Sheikh's shop next to his house around 8:30 pm on Saturday. At that time, Ujjwal Sheikh reportedly made him unconscious by administering sleeping pills. The kidnappers then took the child and hid him in a room at a picnic spot in the town's Rampur area that night.
A case has been filed in connection with the incident, and the accused have been sent to jail through the court.
