Chattogram: Members of the District Police have apprehended two alleged drug traders in possession of 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets in the Baroyarhat area on the Chattogram-Dhaka highway under Mirsharai upazila. The arrest occurred early today, marking a significant seizure in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individuals arrested were identified as Rubel Mia, a 45-year-old microbus driver, and his assistant, 27-year-old Md Ilias Hossain. Both men are residents of Sudaram upazila in the Noakhali district. In addition to the arrests, law enforcement officials also detained the microbus that was reportedly used in the transportation of the contraband drugs.
Police reported that the operation was based on a tip-off, which led a team from Zorerganj Thana Police to stop a Dhaka-bound microbus. During the search conducted around 12:30 am, Rubel and Ilias were detained with the Yaba tablets in the designated area. The arrested individuals admitted to being involved in the trade of Yaba tablets from various locations within the Cox's Bazar district for an extended period.
A case has been filed with Mirsharai Thana concerning the incident, and the apprehended individuals, along with the seized contraband, have been handed over to the court for further legal proceedings.
