Dhaka: A total of 273 nomination papers have been submitted for the 25 available posts in the upcoming Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election. Additionally, 467 nomination papers have been submitted for the 21 hall union elections. The information was confirmed by the Election Commission Member Secretary and JU Proctor, Professor Dr. AKM Rashidul Alam, earlier in the afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Rashidul disclosed that a total of 299 nomination papers were sold for the JUCSU elections, while 514 papers were distributed for the hall union elections over a span of three days. The election commission is set to begin scrutinizing the nomination papers at 8:00 pm tonight and plans to release a draft list of candidates on August 25.
In a bid to ensure security during the election process, the JUCSU election commission has formally sought the assistance of the Bangladesh Army to provide enhanced security measures before, during, and after the polling. This step underscores the importance of maintaining a peaceful election environment.
The election commission had previously announced the schedule for both the JUCSU and hall union elections on August 10, with September 11 set as the polling date.
