Dhaka: The Bangladesh U-17 women’s football team is set to depart for Bhutan tomorrow morning with the objective of defending their title in the seventh edition of the four-nation SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship. The tournament, which includes hosts Bhutan, defending champions Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, will take place in Thimphu from August 20 to 31. The teams will compete in a double round-robin league format.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press conference was held at the Bangladesh Football Federation conference room before the team’s departure, where both the head coach and captain expressed optimism about achieving positive outcomes in the championship. Head coach Mahbubur Rahman Litu emphasized the team’s blend of senior and junior players, expressing hope for a commendable performance.
Assistant Coach Abul Hossain highlighted the broader goal of advancing women’s football in Bangladesh, aiming to develop a strong national team. He noted the presence of talented players within the squad, expressing confidence in their potential to represent the national team in the future. Captain Arpita Biswas Arpita outlined the team’s goal to maintain their successful track record in age-level football by playing well and winning matches consistently.
BFF member and women’s wing committee chairman, Mahfuza Akter Kiron, also attended the press conference. She mentioned that the team has undergone thorough training and is composed of both experienced and inexperienced players. She expressed hope for a successful tournament outcome.
Bangladesh will kick off their SAFF campaign against Bhutan on August 20, followed by matches against India on August 22, Nepal on August 24 and 27, Bhutan on August 29, and India on August 31. All matches will be held at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu.
The Bangladesh U-17 squad consists of Yearzan Begum, Meghla Rani Roy, Tania Akter Fomi, Arpita Biswas Arpita, Fatema Akter, Umma Kulsum, Arifa Akter, Mst Almina, Mst Resme Akther, Thuinuye Marma, Sauravi Akanda Prity, Kranuching Marma, Reya, Alpi Akter, Protima Rani Joba Rani, Sorovi Rani, Mamoni Chakma, Ishita Tripura, Purnima Marma, and Mst Amena Khatun.
