Bangladesh and Malaysia Sign Five MoUs and Three Notes of Exchange

Putrajaya: Bangladesh and Malaysia have signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and three Exchange of Notes to bolster cooperation in various sectors. The signing took place on the first day of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s three-day visit to Malaysia, with both Yunus and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in attendance.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first exchange of notes focused on enhancing cooperation in higher education. This agreement was signed by Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan and Bangladesh’s Adviser for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry, Dr. Asif Nazrul. The second exchange of notes pertained to training for diplomats, signed by Malaysian Foreign Minister Hasan and Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.



The first MoU between the two governments concerned defense cooperation, signed by Malaysian Defense Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin and Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser Hossain. Another MoU addressed cooperation in the supply and infrastructure of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and petroleum products, signed by Malaysian Acting Economic Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah bin Azizan and Bangladesh’s Energy Adviser M. Fouzul Kabir Khan.



The third exchange of notes aimed at cooperation in the field of the Halal ecosystem, signed by Malaysian Deputy Minister Dr. Zulkifli bin Hasan and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud bin Harun. The third MoU established cooperation between the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia and the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies, with signatures from ISIS Malaysia Chairman Datuk Professor Dr. Mohd Faiz Abdullah and Bangladesh High Commissioner in Malaysia Md. Shameem Ahsan.



Further, the fourth MoU set a collaboration path between MIMOS Services Sdn Bhd and the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, signed by MIMOS CEO Mohamad Fauzi Yahaya and BMCCI Shabbir Ahmed Khan. Finally, the fifth MoU was between the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, signed by NCCIM President Dato’ Seri N. Gobalakrishnan and FBCCI Administrator Md. Hafizur Rahman.
