Dinajpur: Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and Textiles Brigadier Dr M Sakhawat Hossain today announced that the interim government is planning to transfer several land ports to the private sector and close those that do not generate revenue. This statement was made during his visit to the Hili land port.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser revealed that four out of the 24 land ports in the country have already been closed, and the process of shutting down four more unprofitable land ports is currently underway. He emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing the infrastructure of developing land ports and mentioned that steps will be taken gradually to address existing problems.
During a meeting with the adviser, business leaders from the port urged authorities to repair roads, increase warehouse facilities, and improve overall infrastructure. Following the meeting, the adviser inspected various facilities of the Hili land port and the customs division, providing necessary instructions to the concerned officials.
The visit was attended by Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Mohammad Manjarul Mannan, Rangpur Customs Divisional Commissioner Arun Kumar Biswas, and Hili Customs Assistant Commissioner A S M Akram, among others.
