SM Sultan’s 101st Birth Anniversary to Be Commemorated in Narail

Narail: The 101st birth anniversary of the legendary artist SM Sultan will be observed in Narail tomorrow (Sunday) with due respect. SM Sultan Foundation and the district administration have organized a daylong programme at the Sultan Complex, including Qurankhwani at 6am, wreath-laying at 9am, and doa mahfil at 9:30am. Deputy Commissioner and Foundation President Sharmin Akhter Jahan will attend the programme as chief guest.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, born on August 10, 1924, in Masumdia of Narail, Sultan earned global fame for his philosophical artworks depicting rural life. His works were exhibited internationally before gaining recognition at home. He was a recipient of the Ekushey Padak in 1982 and the Swadhinata Padak in 1993. Furthermore, he was named “Man of Asia” by Cambridge University, highlighting his significant contribution to the art world.



Sultan passed away on October 10, 1994, and was laid to rest at his home in Narail. His legacy continues to influence artists and art enthusiasts both locally and internationally. The upcoming anniversary celebration is expected to draw attention to his contributions and ensure his memory is cherished by future generations.
