Chattogram: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today apprehended Md. Russell, 36, the main suspect in the Manik murder case, in Anwara upazila of the district. Russell, the son of the late Abu Naser, a contractor from the Purba Kanyara area of the upazila, was captured by RAB 7 in a raid conducted in the Baluchara Kulagaon area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station on Wednesday evening, as reported by RAB 7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain. He was subsequently transferred to Anwara police.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the conflict between Manik and Russell, along with another individual named Selim, originated over financial disagreements. On March 17, Russell allegedly lured Manik to Parki beach under the pretext of settling the financial dispute. The situation escalated into an argument over the payment, leading to Russell and his accomplices assaulting Manik. Following the attack, locals discovered Manik and transported him to the Upazila Health Complex. He was later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for further medical attention, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Subsequently, Manik's elder brother, Mohammad Babu Prakash Babul, filed a murder case against Russell and his associates, marking the beginning of the investigation that led to Russell's arrest.
