Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) assured today that there are no security threats surrounding the upcoming events for the July Mass Uprising Day. The Adviser addressed reporters after a law and order meeting held at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the government is on high alert to ensure the peaceful conduct of the events planned for the day. The Adviser encouraged public trust by stating there is no reason for panic. He expressed optimism that all events and programs will proceed smoothly with collective cooperation.
Jahangir Alam emphasized the government's preparedness, highlighting continuous meetings and collaboration with all concerned parties. Addressing inquiries about ongoing government actions, he confirmed the continuation of a special anti-criminal operation, which aims to recover looted weapons and will persist until the national election.
Touching on the issue of juvenile crime, the Home Adviser noted its prevalence in the capital's Mohammadpur area, advocating for social awareness to curb this trend. He also remarked on the decline of mob violence and reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy towards such incidents.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani and Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud. The significance of the day traces back to the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, after a prolonged Anti-Discrimination Movement, leading to the designation of August 5 as the July Mass Uprising Day.
