Dhaka: A total of 80 political parties have submitted their lacking documents before the Election Commission (EC) to secure registration ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections. EC Secretariat Director (Public Relations) Md. Shariful Alam shared this information today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, 145 parties initially submitted applications to the EC for registration as new political entities. Following a review of these applications, the EC sent letters to these parties, granting them a 15-day period to submit the missing documents, a deadline that concludes today.
Md. Shariful Alam confirmed that out of the 145 parties, 80 have complied with the EC's request and provided the necessary documentation. EC Additional Secretary K.M. Ali Newaz earlier informed BSS that none of the 145 parties had initially met all the requirements set by the EC. Consequently, letters were dispatched to them, emphasizing the need to submit the missing information within the stipulated 15 days.
Newaz further stated that the parties fulfilling the eligibility criteria within the deadline would undergo further investigation. In contrast, those unable to meet the requirements would not be subjected to any investigations.
Due to this, EC officials indicated that the registration applications of the remaining 65 parties would be canceled, as they failed to provide complete information as mandated by law. The EC received 147 registration applications from 145 parties, with the deadline for submission being June 22.
