Dhaka: Health officials today reported 278 fresh cases of dengue, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals in the past 24 hours, with the majority of patients seeking treatment in the southwestern Barishal region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) stated that 72 of these patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, which remains the most affected area by the mosquito-borne disease. Additionally, 35 cases were reported in Chattogram division, 46 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 35 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 28 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas. Other cases included 18 in Khulna division, four in Mymensingh division, 35 in Rajshahi division, and five in Rangpur division.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has recorded 83 deaths and 20,980 infections. The DGHS noted that 303 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country after recovering from the disease.
Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives and affected 101,214 people in the country.
