Barishal: Health officials today reported 386 new dengue cases and at least two deaths in the past 24 hours, with most patients seeking treatment at health facilities in the southwestern Barishal region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, “During the period, (of the 386) 106 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division” which appeared to have been the worst victim of the mosquito-carried diseases, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said. It said among the rest, 64 were hospitalised in Chattogram division, 62 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 49 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 29 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 23 in Khulna division, five in Mymensingh division, 45 in Rajshahi division and three in Rangpur Division.
Since the start of the dengue onslaught, Bangladesh has witnessed 81 deaths while the disease has inflicted 20,702 individuals this year. The DGHS, however, mentioned that 378 patients were discharged from different hospitals across the country after their recovery.
Last year, the dengue outbreak claimed 575 lives and infected 101,214 people in the country.
