Dhaka: Jagannath University (JnU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim today emphasized that the July revolution has paved the way for constructing a society free from discrimination. 'But unfortunately, due to some steps, efforts are being made to discredit this achievement which cannot be accepted in any way,' he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the VC made these remarks while addressing the closing and award distribution ceremony of the 'July Memorial First Inter-Department Debate Competition 2025.' The event was organized by the university's Social Work Department and supervised by the Social Work Debating Club.
Karim also expressed his desire for students to grow into humane and courageous leaders guided by logic and open-mindedness. Earlier in the competition, the Department of Pharmacy claimed victory over the Department of Islamic Studies, which finished as the runner-up.
In individual accolades, Tanjim Patwari was named 'Debater of the Final' and Ashikur Rahman Akash was recognized as 'Debater of the Tournament.' The event also featured speeches from Prof Dr. Mustafa Hasan, Chairman of the Social Work Department, and Prof Dr. Muhammad Nurullah, Moderator of the Jagannath University Debating Society.
Dr. Bushra Zaman, the club's moderator, delivered the welcome speech, while Club President Nahid Hasan Russell presided over the program. General Secretary Israt Jahan moderated the event.
