Rangamati: The fishing ban in Kaptai Lake has been extended for two additional days following recent heavy rains in the district. Initially scheduled to end at midnight on July 31, fishing activities will now resume from midnight on August 2, as announced by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah during a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room earlier today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah, who presided over the meeting, stated that the decision was made with the agreement of the BFDC, the traders' association, and the fishermen. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Jobaida Akhter, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rifat Asma, Additional Superintendent of Police Azharul Islam Mukul, District Fisheries Officer Adhir Chandra Das, BFDC Deputy Manager Md. Masud Alam, and other leaders of the Fishermen's Association were present at the meeting.
The fishing ban, initially imposed by the Kaptai Lake Management Committee from May 1 to July 31, aimed to ensure the natural reproduction of carp fish and the proper growth of fry released into the lake. The recent extension by two days was necessitated by the heavy rainfall affecting the region. Fish landing and transportation activities are expected to commence from 6 am on August 3.
