Khulna: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Md Zulfikar Ali Haidar emphasized that mass awareness is crucial for preventing all kinds of crimes. He made these remarks at an awareness programme focused on preventing human trafficking, smuggling, unsafe migration, and child marriage. The event took place at Fatema Girls' High School in Khulna city, where he attended as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the human rights organization Justice and Care. The KMP Commissioner elaborated on the complexities of preventing crimes such as human trafficking, ensuring safe migration, and tackling child marriages. He highlighted that raising awareness at the grassroots level, particularly through school and college teachers, is instrumental in addressing these issues effectively.
He pointed out that many innocent individuals from various parts of the country are often misled with false promises of good jobs, modeling opportunities, or marriage abroad. The Commissioner warned that once victims realize they have been trafficked, it is often too late, especially if they were taken without proper travel documents, making their rescue and identification extremely challenging.
Addressing the teachers present, he stressed that their efforts to raise awareness could help many students avoid falling victim to such deceptions. On behalf of the KMP, he assured their commitment to actively combating human trafficking and child marriage.
The event saw participation from officials from Justice and Care, school teachers, and students, among others.
